The Scientific Council proposes to the board of governors trends in research policy, scientific and technical documentation, as well as the distribution of research budgets. It is consulted on initial and continuing education programmes, on the description of vacant or requested posts for research professors, on research programmes and contracts, on requests for authorisation to issue national degrees, on projects to create or modify the institute's degrees and on the institute's contract. It maintains the link between teaching and research, notably in postgraduate studies. The Scientific Council comprises 22 members, 2 of whom are postgraduate students.
